Novermber 26th 2012

Hello Everyone,

You have not heard from me in a while but it’s good to be back.

I have spent some time out to just get an overview of everything I have done over the last couple of years, press the reset button and think about what I want to do next. I’ve got some ideas that I’m really excited about and after seeing the Diana Vreeland movie the other night I’m even more inspired! I think she would have dug my new, way out video clip. If you have not already, you can sign up to my mailing list and have an exclusive pre-release viewing of the video clip for Not the One.

It has not yet ‘hit the press’ or been seen by anyone except the guy who made it, Benjamin Portas from Kids in Cloaks and some of my family. I thought it might be nice for you guys to see it first.

Oh yeah and I’ve been entering a few song competitions and ‘Wanna Run’ came second in the APRA International Unsigned Only Song Competition. It is also a finalist in the ASA Song competition. See what happens.

Wanna Run – Out Now!

Wanna Run’, is the second single from Kate Vigo’s upcoming release, Blue To Gold. Following the hypnotic disco jam, ’You’re Haunting Me’, ‘Wanna Run’ is an equally addictive proposition.

‘Wanna Run’ is an upbeat slice of electro-pop-rock, blessed with sunshine-speckled guitars overlaid with a Cure-esque synth riff and a bop around the lounge room in your jammies kind of beat – the perfect addition to your springtime playlist. Ostensibly detailing the struggle of finding one’s own path in life amid the tempest of competing expectations, the track’s punchy arrangement manages to find a perfect balance between vivacity and angst.

‘Wanna Run’ is indicative of the philosophy underpinning the creation of Blue To Gold. With renowned composer and producer Jan Skubiszewski at the production helm, Vigo has broadened her musical palette, taking influence from such divergent areas as disco electronica and indie folk to craft an elaborate yet delicately nuanced offering. A proper album in the true sense of the word, Blue To Gold explores two ends of the pop song spectrum; the moodier, darker side as evidenced in Vigo’s previous releases, harmonized with a snappier and more upbeat edge.

Vigo says “My music has always had a dark side but for this album I wanted to record some more uplifting songs and also have fun in the writing process”.

Vigo and her cohorts will launch ‘Wanna Run’ at The Toff In Town on October 6 before releasing her album Blue To Gold in March 2012 through The Planet Company/MGM.

“Wanna Run” Clip Shoot

We shot the video clip for Wanna Run yesterday.  The shoot went for fourteen hours.  There were a lot of feathers flying around and I spent most of the day in a pajama suit.  Here are some photos …

New Video Clip ‘You’re Haunting Me’

Check out Kate Vigo’s new video clip ‘You’re Haunting Me’ !

“You’re Haunting Me” sees Vigo working again with Kess Broekman-Dattner, who directed her MusicOz Music Video of the Year winning ‘The Way That You Are’ in 2010. Captured by cinematographer Katie Milwright, ‘You’re Haunting Me’ utilizes projections over live action to stunning effect. Created with the help of motion graphic designers, Chris Moore of Studio Organic and Tobin Edwards of, the projections become characters in their own right, propelling the video’s otherworldly narrative.

Says Broekman-Dattner: “We didn’t want to have pretty pictures for pretty pictures’ sake, and so grounded the technique in the context of Vigo’s battle to overcome the clutches of an obsession from the depths of her dreams.”

‘You’re Haunting Me’ Single Launch

Hello friends,

An amazing Melbourne musician, Kate Vigo is about to make herself known as a songwriting powerhouse with her next musical outing on Saturday the 9th of July. Kate Vigo releases the first single “You’re Haunting Me” from her upcoming full length record due out in September this year.

A prolific songwriter, Kate Vigo launches the first taste of her amazing first album with an official launch party at the Northcote Social Club with support from Hoy (formerly Houlette) and The Commas. Kate will also host the premier screening of the beautifully crafted video clip for the track (directed by award winning Kess Broekman-Dattner).

Be there at the Northcote Social Club on Saturday the 9th of July 2011, with doors opening at 8:30 with Kate and her band grace the stage at 10:30. Make sure you get there at 9pm for Hoy and The Commas as both acts showcase brand new material due for release later in the year.

‘You’re Haunting Me’ is the first single from Melbourne chanteuse/pop provocatrix Kate Vigo’s forthcoming self-titled album.

The track, musically reminiscent of the last bacchanalian days of 70s disco, heralds a darkness behind its glittering keyboard melodies and Vigo’s bright yet plaintive vocals. Equal parts sensuousness and danger, ‘You’re Haunting Me” details the battle to overcome the clutches of obsession from the depths of dreams between its sanguine beats. The track is accompanied by a stunning film clip utilising the talents of designer and projection artist Chris Moore, director of photography Katie Milwright and director Kess Broekman-Dattner.

Informed by such disparate artists as The Cure, Madonna and Technotronic, ‘You’re Haunting Me’ is a sublime piece of pop pastiche. Recorded by Kate and her bandmates, Dan MacDonald and Max Walker alongside Jackson Jackson production whizz Jan Skubiszewski, ‘You’re Haunting Me’ is perhaps a keyhole glance at the album to follow.

As Vigo explains, despite the inherent difficulties, this genre disconnect was integral to the creation of the album. “I don’t like to limit myself to one style, each song just comes out and is what it is. This was the challenge for Jan, to bring all the songs out in their own right as well as making a coherent album. At the end it all tied together and I think Jan has done the most amazing job. I couldn’t be more happy with it.”

“Loved it from the moment I heard it. Indie cool a la Feist with a jazz/soul undertow. And such a wonderfully emotive voice. This is great stuff.”
Dom Alessio, triple j

“sexy beats – really good stuff great voice kate bring it on”
Rosie Beaton, triple j

“A great record, full of vocal magic and seductive loops that are by turns playful, wistful and dark. It’s experimental pop that’s still fun, sitting somewhere between Billie Holiday and Zap Mama…self-penned wistful love-songs which are personal, but oddly universal…Eclectic, versatile, part pop, electronic and stylish ‘60s torch rock, all awesome.”
Beat Magazine

“Kate Vigo’s voice is soaring…her poignant portrayal stops you in your tracks.”

“A little bit pop, and a whole lot entrancing.”
Herald Sun, HIT

“Kate Vigo was born with the music inside her and she’s just trying to let it out. Truly awe-inspiring, breathtaking, a pleasure to watch and possessed of a voice that comes from somewhere deep and sacred, simple and fun …the romanticism and presence she exuded transformed the club into a secret French Resistance speakeasy.”
